Having your finances in place is another aspect of being a parent.  Proper financial planning is crucial in order to reach goals, and especially if you are not able to care for your child.

Each of us has personal financial goals, mostly revolving around providing for our family, paying for education and of course retirement. The proper planning for these goals should start while you are young and continue to evolve during your lifetime as changes occur, such as a birth of a child.

Your financial planning should also include ways to provide for your family if you are unable to provide for them directly.  There are several different ways you can provide for your family, both during and after your lifetime.  Just as selecting a guardian is important, providing for your family, if you are unable, is essential, especially if you have minor children.  There are several different vehicles you can use to provide for your child, depending on your personal situation, goals and finances.

Meeting with a financial planner and an estate planning attorney an important step in protecting your child's future.
